From Kathleen O'Donnell: John Gormley's article, "'Welcome to the fishing grounds': A journey with a tuna harpooner," in the Anchor's August edition, was fascinating. Please publish more pieces like this about the varied activities and challenges for our Harpswell residents engaged in the overall fishing industry.

From Kay and Bill Greenwood: "Dead-end road to success" (July) was a great article about an almost unknown business in Harpswell. I thought you would like to know the rest of the story as to how it continues to be a part of a much larger and ongoing picture.

The Great State of Maine Air Show was one for the books. However, the seamanship of most of the boaters traveling up Ewing Narrows devolved into wave chaos after Saturday's show.

We would like to thank all the folks who swiftly helped us with a fuel spill at Durant's Lobster wharf a few weeks ago. It was caused by a leak in a bait truck delivering bait to our wharf, not by one of our boats.

From Liz Taylor: Thank you, Anchor, for your article in June about the challenges facing the new Emergency Services Building Committee ("Emergency services building project faces rising costs, possible delays," Page 12).

From Rev. Allison Smith: As a parent of three girls, I want to thank the Harpswell community for its support of postsecondary education! As you may know, it is very expensive for kids to go to college. Thankfully community college has become more reasonable!

From the Harpswell Bandstand Committee: There are just so many folks to thank for the great success of the Harpswell Bandstand by the Sea 2026 season preview held May 9 at the Orr's Island Schoolhouse. The excellent food and music and the stimulating crowd created just the right vibe to lead us forward to our summer concert series, opening Thursday, June 25.

From Liz Taylor: In recent years, Harpswell voters have approved funding for two major projects: $1.2 million for the renovation of the Recycling Center and $6 million for the construction of a new central fire station.
