Three college students from Harpswell were recently named to the dean's list at their respective institutions for the spring semester.

The Mingo Club, of Bailey Island, invites you to join us at our annual ice cream social in celebration of two birthdays — our country's 250th and the event's 50th. The event will take place on the Fourth of July from 2-4 p.m., rain or shine.

Harpswell's 216 miles of coastline, more than any other town in Maine, attract droves of visitors, but require legal and ethical responsibility to protect the marine environment. What flows off the lawn or out of the woods ends up in clam flats, estuaries and coastal waters. The headline-grabbing stories of Maine ponds taken over by algae are bemoaned as recreational fishing and water quality are impacted.

In October 2025, members of the Harpswell Historical Society had a discussion with town leaders and agreed to work together to plan a townwide celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Did you know that Harpswell has a large supply of durable medical equipment that is free for the asking?

How can you reduce trash odors, reduce the town's costs to dispose of trash, and improve the environment? Compost using the green cans at the Recycling Center.

As plans come together for Harpswell's celebration of America's 250th birthday, several events are approaching for those who like music, architecture, gardens, food and Harpswell stories.

The Orr's and Bailey Islands Fire Department is offering an opportunity to order a commemorative paver as a way to show support. The pavers are being installed along the front walkway to the Orr's Island Schoolhouse.

Everyone who owns waterfront property wants a view of the ocean. We do a lot of work for clients with waterfront property and often hear the same thing: "We want to know how much we are allowed to take out to open up as much view as we can get."

Because Maine is home to many older Americans, attention to high blood pressure may be more crucial than ever. Perhaps it's no surprise that Harpswell Aging at Home recently piloted a new program enabling residents of all ages to check their blood pressure at no cost.
