I received two packages today from commercial sources that proudly proclaim that prompt, free delivery of their products is assured. In one case, the item was received within 48 hours of ordering.

Welcome, Harpswell cooks! Here we are in the midst of Maine's winter. We find ourselves isolated from one another as we muddle through a pandemic.

"It's warmed up a little bit since this morning," I say to my daughters as Echo, the black Lab, strains at his leash and zooms us down Cundy's Harbor Road.

Do you get those flyers in the mail for "community solar farms"? Do they sound too good to be true? I thought so, too. That's why I sat down with five friends here in town to take a closer look, ask around, figure out how the farms work and see how much money you'd really save.

If I had been marked with a "best if used by" date, I would have been well past it and trashed 30 years ago. Lately I've felt like that cucumber in the fridge drawer that you forgot about two months ago and stuck your finger through yesterday while reaching for a carrot.

Senior year of high school is often a bittersweet experience — on one hand, kids are getting their first real taste of freedom and independence as they apply to colleges or branch out into the workforce, but on the other hand, seniors often face anxiety as they look to the great looming future and say goodbye to life as they know it.

It was easy to close on my target because the road in Georgetown was lined with vehicles. I arrived before noon on Jan. 2 to find the lawn packed with at least 60 people bundled up against a cold mist.

Bailey Island General Store has a rack of lovely Bailey Island postcards, and sometimes I buy a few to send to friends. Perhaps you sent a card or two this year and perhaps 100 years from now they will wind up in someone's collection.
