A Bailey Island woman who serves the community through initiatives for older adults and leadership in her church received the Brunswick Rotary Club's Walter H. "Doc" Phillips Memorial Award during a ceremony at the Harpswell Town Office on Nov. 16.

Fire damaged an apartment over The School House 1913 on Tuesday, Nov. 28, but a swift response prevented the fire from spreading to the restaurant.

The Harpswell Select Board has appointed a task force to examine the impact of short-term rentals and draft a policy. Nine members were chosen from among 29 applicants, demonstrating strong interest in how the town might regulate the growing industry.

The Harpswell Select Board has contracted R.A. Webber & Sons Inc., of Cundy's Harbor, to restore the Giant's Stairs Trail and parking areas for $8,884. The board approved the contract on Thursday, Sept. 28.
