Harpswell Select Board member David Chipman will seek another three-year term in March, while school board member Frank Wright also appears likely to run again.

The deadline to file the paperwork necessary to appear on the ballot is Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 4:30 p.m., according to Town Clerk Cathy Doughty. Chipman has filed and will appear on the ballot, while Wright has taken out nomination papers but has not yet returned them, Doughty said on Thursday, Jan. 4. No other candidates have taken out papers, she said.

Attempts to reach Wright for confirmation of his plans were unsuccessful.

To appear on the ballot, a candidate must take out nomination papers, collect signatures from at least 25 and no more than 100 registered voters, then return the papers to the Town Office by the deadline. Both terms are three years.

The election will coincide with the annual Town Meeting on Saturday, March 9, at Harpswell Community School. The polls for the election will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the business meeting will commence at 10.

Chipman is nearing 10 years on the Select Board, having first served from 1999-2002 before he returned in 2017.

Wright has served on the Maine School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors since 2019 and chaired the board for the 2022-23 school year. Harpswell has four seats on the 14-member board, which is the school board for Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham.
