Jocelyne Coombs, of Orr’s Island, is Region 10 Technical High School’s Student of the Year.
Brunswick’s Region 10 Technical High School has named Orr’s Island resident and Mt. Ararat High School senior Jocelyne Coombs its 2023 Student of the Year.
Coombs completed two years in Region 10’s metal fabrication and welding program. She has earned multiple certifications and will test for another this spring.
She works as a commercial lobster harvester out of Mackerel Cove, Bailey Island. She plans to attend Southern Maine Community College to study business administration.
Coombs is a high achiever in the classroom and on the water, where she has the respect of the fishing community and was featured in a video project about Maine harvesters. Active in her community, she recently assisted younger students at two local schools with writing assignments on courage by speaking on her own courage and success in the lobster industry.
The recipient of multiple student recognitions and a member of the National Technical Honor Society, Coombs is a team leader. Other students go to her for advice and assistance in completing tasks. She always displays a strong work ethic and dependability that will serve her well as she strives to be an entrepreneur.
Region 10 Technical High School provides career and technical education to students from Brunswick High School, Freeport High School, Harpswell Coastal Academy and Mt. Ararat High School.
