Embarrassed for all of Harpswell

I believe I know my place in Harpswell: alien/not from here. That said, I have had the good fortune of being part of the town's Affordable Housing Working Group and providing the group's report, which has been approved by the Select Board, to the Comprehensive Plan Task Force.

An opportunity squandered

When I first joined the Comprehensive Plan Task Force, I was excited to help shape Harpswell's future, particularly by ensuring the working waterfront and commercial fishing were prioritized. However, early meetings were disorganized, lacked a clear timeline and had minimal outreach efforts.

The art of our town

As I look out my window while cozy by the fire, I think about how quickly autumn passed and winter settled in. This time of year, Harpswell seems to take on a quieter and more subdued beauty.

Read comp plan before voting

As you may have heard, the revised comprehensive plan is now available online. I strongly suggest that people read it before voting at Town Meeting in March. Know what you are getting, and what you are voting for or against.

My Jimmy Carter moment

When I heard the news of former President Jimmy Carter's death on Dec. 29, 2024, I walked downstairs and looked at a picture on the wall. It showed a young naval officer (me) shaking hands with then-President Carter on board the USS Nimitz in May 1980.

Preserving part of Harpswell’s history

The waterfront at Mitchell Field is our own piece of paradise. It's even got a building that could further the community's experience. There is value in preserving a part of Harpswell's history, with the administration building easily becoming a recreation center.
