Appreciation for pre-K teacher

If you are fortunate enough to have a precious prekindergarten child or grandchild in Maggie York’s new Harpswell pre-K class, you know how amazing Mrs. York is. For those who don’t, all I can say is that it is great for Harpswell to have one of our own, a Harpswell resident, lead this class of young learners.

We had the privilege of attending a small event the pre-K class held on the Friday before their winter break. We were so impressed with what they had learned about boatbuilding, precipitation, humidity, wind and so much more. Their enthusiasm was infectious.

The retired educators who singled Mrs. York out for the $300 award to use for STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — education in her classroom chose well. (See “Retired educators present classroom grants” in the March edition.) Lucky us and lucky Harpswell! Mrs. York, you are greatly appreciated!

Celeste Danforth, a grateful grandmother, Harpswell Neck

I also serve on my department's Board of Directors and on the town's Fire and Rescue Planning Committee, and I'm retired from a career fire department. I am writing to encourage support for the central fire station on Mountain Road.

‘Committee think’ is necessary

I am a member of the Harpswell Comprehensive Plan Task Force, but this letter contains my thoughts only. I do not speak for the committee. I write in reply to the June letter from Scott Ruppert ("Affordable housing's tentactles").
