Read comp plan before voting

As you may have heard, the revised comprehensive plan is now available online. I strongly suggest that people read it before voting at Town Meeting in March. Know what you are getting, and what you are voting for or against. The revised plan has been simplified and is much easier to follow.

As a member of the Comprehensive Plan Task Force, unfortunately I am not in full support of the plan. My reasoning is only partially because of some of the content, but mostly because of the process by which the document was created.

I personally don’t feel that a small committee of people should be creating a document of this importance. Instead, the entire community should participate through an online process using a biweekly survey that is created by committee members. That way the decisions are made by a majority, not by a few. Many other towns create their comprehensive plans this way.

One more public hearing will be held Feb. 22. It will be your final chance to express any concerns about the document.

No comprehensive plan will ever be perfect, nor will everyone always agree. However, I feel that as a member of this committee, it is my responsibility to try to give the majority what they want. I guess we shall see after the vote on March 8.
