Local student earns honors

A Harpswell student has been named to the dean's list at Fairfield University in Connecticut. Jasmine Huntsman earned the honor for the spring semester. To make the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the semester.

Harpswell creators of ‘Kamikaze’ comic plan Kickstarter campaign to fund latest book

Moving Ink Media, the creative company behind the award-winning web comic and animated short "Kamikaze," will launch a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign on July 22. Their goal is to publish "Kamikaze: Before the Storm - Part 2," the fourth volume in their science fiction graphic novel series. The monthlong campaign has a goal of $11,000 to fund the final polish and printing of the 120-page comic book.

Orr’s Islander graduates from Naval Academy

Sadie Skinner, of Orr's Island, has successfully completed four years of challenging academic, physical and professional military training at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. On May 23, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in ocean engineering with a minor in French, and she was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy.

HCS students shine in math contest

More than 60 fourth and fifth graders from across Maine School Administrative District 75 participated in the Noetic Learning Math Contest in April. The goal of the competition is to encourage students' interest in math, develop their problem-solving skills, and inspire them to excel in STEM fields — science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
