Do you have a beloved clock that won't keep time? A chair that wobbles? How about a rip in your favorite pair of pants? Rather than throw your item away, bring it to Repair Cafe Harpswell — a new program sponsored by Harpswell Aging at Home where a group of skilled volunteers will help you repair your treasured items.

The Maine People's Alliance has presented state Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, with its Rising Tide Award for her work to address Maine's housing crisis.

The Maine Women's Giving Tree is inviting nonprofits in the Southern Midcoast to submit letters of interest, the first step in its 2024 grant cycle. The Maine Women's Giving Tree makes grants to fellow nonprofits that focus on improving the lives of women, children or families in Bath, Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, Phippsburg, Topsham, Wiscasset and Woolwich.

Over the past six weeks, the Harpswell Comprehensive Plan Task Force has sponsored three workshops on issues important to the town's future: natural resources, the working waterfront, and current land use.

Drivers passing the Curtis Farm Preserve on Harpswell Neck on Oct. 13 couldn't have missed the smoke from a bonfire next to the parking lot. Once again, it was the Harpswell Invasive Plant Partnership at work.

October was National Fire Prevention Month, and Harpswell's three fire departments focused on raising awareness among the town's youngest residents. On Oct. 11, firefighters and emergency medical technicians from the departments convened at Harpswell Community School, bringing fire trucks, equipment and hands-on learning tools.

Harpswell Lobster Boat Races organizers presented a $20,000 check to the Harpswell Santa Fund — the biggest contribution in the event's history — on Monday, Oct. 2.

"Activity friends" are the people with whom we share our passions for different activities, such as exercising, crafting and learning. They are one of the seven types of friends that experts say contribute to our well-being.

2023 has been a busy year for Curtis Memorial Library — celebrating its 140th year of serving readers in Brunswick and Harpswell, and expanding its services to reach underserved areas with its new electric bookmobile.

Through a grant, our Town Office has brand-new energy efficient lights. Given the number of fixtures and LED bulbs, the cost ran to about $27,700.
