The Mid-Coast Retired Educators Association awarded three $300 classroom grants to local educators during its Nov. 12 meeting at the Topsham Public Library.

The recipients were Colby Gail, of Bowdoin Central School and Bowdoinham Community School, to introduce pickleball to fourth and fifth graders; Michelle Lane, of Harpswell Community School, for adaptive recess equipment; and Elizabeth Ratley and Willa Able, of Morse High School, to purchase bilingual books. This is the fourth year the association has awarded classroom grants.

Also at the November meeting, Harpswell antiques professional Pam Crosby LaBonte shared insights into trends in antiques and collectibles. The presentation made a great segue into the association’s annual fundraising auction, which brought in more than $400 for scholarships that will be offered in the spring.

The educational food service Simply Susie’s Catering provided a marvelous luncheon. Harpswell native Susan Taylor, an educator at Boothbay Region High School, oversees this program. Her students serve meals as part of their curriculum.

The Mid-Coast Retired Educators Association welcomes all retired educators from the area to its meetings on the second Tuesday of each month from September through June. For more information, email midcoastretired@gmail.com.
