Working on a permanent home

The Harpswell Neck Little Free Library is up and running right outside the Itty Bitty Coffee Shop on Harpswell Neck Road.  We are eternally grateful to Kelly and George for providing a welcoming home for this beautiful building, designed and executed by Carl Rich.

The Little Free Library has books for all ages — young children who can be read to, children who are just starting to read, young adults, and plenty for adult readers. If you haven’t visited, I recommend it.

We are working on getting a permanent home for the Harpswell Neck Library to provide a quiet place to use the internet, do homework, meet a friend or get tutoring.

Please keep us in heart and mind.

Elaine Baur, Harpswell Neck Library Association

A better option than demolition

After confirming that the building is structurally sound, the organization conducted a series of interviews and workshops. Finding a high level of support, it recommended inviting nonprofits to submit proposals to repurpose the building.

Finest public librarian we know

My wife and I are retired from careers as librarians and library science faculty. We hold library cards for Orr's Island, Curtis Memorial, and our library system back home — Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
