Commitment to education and students

Please accept this letter in support of Frank Wright’s reelection to the Maine School Administrative District 75 board. I live in Harpswell and have two daughters in MSAD 75 schools. The number of children in this community whose lives Frank has influenced for the better is uncountable. As a parent, coach and classroom volunteer who has logged more hours reading to students than anyone I’ve met, Frank repeatedly shows his commitment to education and to students.

I had the unique privilege of serving as Frank’s assistant cross-country coach for two seasons at Harpswell Community School. Where most people learn to employ patience, Frank exudes it. When his elementary school runners arrived for practice unprepared, wound up or inattentive, Frank helped them shift their behavior and saw the best in each of them. He worked them hard with copious words of encouragement. Frank doesn’t give up on anyone, even if they give up on themselves.

In his role as chairman of the board, at a time when tensions among members were high, Frank remained focused on outcomes that best serve students, teachers and staff. His commitment to equity and respect are what MSAD 75 needs in order to continue to foster a learning environment that addresses the unique gifts and challenges of all students.

If most of us, myself included, aspired to be half as committed and responsive as Frank Wright, we would be living in a very different reality than we presently are. It would undoubtedly be one in which our children were both challenged and encouraged, seen for who they are and supported in who they’re becoming. As a parent, I expect my local school board to be as open-minded as it is conscientious. I can think of no better presence on this board than Frank Wright’s.

Stay in your lane

If someone or something is close to your side of the road, whether pedestrian, bicyclist or vehicle, you need to slow down or stop — not swerve into the oncoming lane without clearance to do so.

Widespread "bravo" to many for the lead story in the May edition of the Harpswell Anchor. First of all, to J.W. Oliver for writing from a neutral perspective, something lost in journalism these days.
