Thank you from Corner Market

We would like to thank the Harpswell community for a terrific first season at Corner Market. We enjoyed reconnecting with neighbors, meeting new friends, and welcoming visitors to the area. We are excited to continue to build out the bakery, while also showcasing local farms and products.

While the store is closed for the season, we will have homemade goods available at different times throughout the year. We expect to start at Thanksgiving and continue through the spring with delicious food available for preorder and pickup at the store. More details to follow, but to be kept in the loop about these “pop-up” bakery events, please feel free to sign up for our mailing list on our website, harpswellcornermarket.com, and/or follow our Instagram feed @harpswellcornermarket.

Finally, we would like to thank our local vendor partners and the team members who worked with us for the first season at Harpswell Corner Market, as well as the Anchor for covering our story. We probably also owe a big thank you to everyone who helped watch our children as we embraced the “it takes a village” mantra this year! We learned a lot and really appreciate all the support.

We look forward to seeing everyone back in the market in May and thank you again for welcoming Corner Market to the special community that is Harpswell.

Maine, memories and delicious food

In the July issue, I was pleased to read about Kathy and Sheldon Morse and their new dining venture at Henry Allen's Seafood. I have been a customer of the Morses since the summer of '00, when I stumbled into their newly opened lobster shack on Morse's Wharf at the end of Morse Shore Road.

Gratitude for graffiti cleanup

I recently spent a week at The Driftwood Inn and, while walking at Giant's Stairs, I noticed graffiti on some of the rocks. A couple days later, I noticed two men cleaning off the rocks.

Oppose Mitchell Field boat launch

I oppose this idea of a large boat launch, with all that goes with it, at Mitchell Field. The recent disclosure that this could cost the town and its taxpayers more than $1.9 million seals it for me — not that I thought this was a good idea in the first place.
