Orr’s Islander makes dean’s list

Volunteers for a search-and-rescue team will meet and participate in their first training at the Cundy's Harbor Community Hall at 10 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 28.

The Harpswell Recycling Center will offer its annual drive-thru shredding service on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. Free to residents, the service will be provided by Shredding On Site, of Bangor, which will have a truck parked behind the center.

Spring is almost upon us and leaves are popping out. Those early bits of green on shrubs and bushes likely appear on plants you don't want in your garden, like Japanese barberry and shrub honeysuckles.

Come spring, Harpswell's air is sweet with the scent of apple blossoms. Wander the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust trails at Houghton Graves Park or Curtis Farm Preserve and you'll see an array of young apple trees in bloom.
