With several holidays coming this month, many of us are planning some sort of celebration. Some may travel to be with friends and/or family, while others may choose to have a quiet holiday at home.

Of the many blessings to celebrate this holiday, gratitude for our friends, cooks, and volunteers who help neighbors in need within our community certainly tops the list.

Once again, the humidity has descended upon us here in Maine. I thought for sure that it would be a short-lived heat wave, but I was wrong. As I listen to my air conditioner sputtering in the background, I contemplate what to make for supper.

August is here and that means only one thing in Maine: blueberry season. Those low-dwelling beauties taste the absolute best and are one of the healthiest of fruits.

It's July. It's summer in Maine and although the season (in my opinion) is not long enough, it is absolutely glorious. I don't know about you, but I want to enjoy every moment of it before those patio heaters have to be brought out.

It was a fluke, really. My husband and I were taking a walk on Lookout Point Road. I saw a sign that said, "Seams by the Sea." I thought it a clever sign and made a mental note.

Driving by the now-closed B&M factory in Portland last week, it made me sad to think I will no longer smell the beans baking when I ​pass​ by. Nothing beats the aroma of a pot of beans ​baking​ in the oven.

Spring is in the air here in Maine … finally. Beneath the melting snow and ice are blooms and flowers ready to grace us with their beauty. Time to celebrate new beginnings.

There are days when what to make for dinner is the last thing you want to think about. You've had a long day at work, got involved in a project or simply don't feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen.
