Rather than continue to pursue sole ownership of Little Mark Island and Monument, the town of Harpswell now plans to submit a joint application with The Presumpscot Foundation, which owns Harpswell's Halfway Rock Light Station.

Harpswell has promoted one of its part-time municipal firefighters, Mike Drake, to serve as the town's next full-time fire administrator. Drake replaces Arthur "Art" Howe III, who retired July 13 after six years on the job and nearly a half-century in public safety.
