The leadership we need

I am writing to encourage Harpswell residents to vote for Ellen Glew to fill the Select Board position. She brings to Harpswell a history and spirit of community involvement — and more.

I have had the benefit of working with Ellen on various committees and projects. I’ve experienced her professionalism, critical thinking and commitment to the well-being of Harpswell’s residents, living conditions and environment.

Harpswell is in the midst of implementing several large-scale initiatives. These projects include renovation plans for Mitchell Field (projected at $1.55 million) and for the Recycling Center and Transfer Station (projected at $1.47 million), as well as borrowing up to $6 million to build a central emergency services facility on Mountain Road to house municipal firefighters and paramedics. In a time of uncertainty about costs and availability of products and materials, each of these projects is at risk of cost overruns.

Ellen brings real-world experience in marketing and business development. She understands the need to address not just startup costs, but to include recurring and variable maintenance and operations expenses in the overall evaluation.

Ellen will provide the leadership and experience we need as we embark on these projects and future plans.

Please go to YouTube and search for “Ellen Glew” to view an interview with Ellen on the Harpswell Community TV channel.

Stay in your lane

From Robin Casey: Harpswell drivers: Please, please, please follow the rules of the road, especially on our narrow main roads! If someone or something is close to your side of the road, whether pedestrian, bicyclist or vehicle, you need to slow down or stop — not swerve into the oncoming lane without clearance to do so.
