Harpswell Lobster Boat Races organizers presented a $20,000 check to the Harpswell Santa Fund — the biggest contribution in the event’s history — on Monday, Oct. 2.

The all-volunteer Harpswell Lobster Boat Races Committee donates all profit from the event to the Santa Fund. The committee raises the money from merchandise sales, business sponsorships and entry fees.

In addition to Christmas gifts, the nonprofit Santa Fund furnishes grocery cards, heating assistance and school supplies to families in need. The organization started when a local lobsterman died and the fishing community ensured his family had Christmas gifts.

The presentation was at Pammy’s Ice Cream Parlor, which sells leftover merchandise after the races each year. Pammy’s is at the entrance to George J. Mitchell Field, which has been the land base for the races since 2022.

The Harpswell Lobster Boat Races will return on July 28, 2024.
