Holbrook wins grant to replace floats

The Holbrook Community Foundation has received a $12,800 grant to replace two damaged floats at its wharf in Cundy’s Harbor.

Cumberland County awarded the funds from its Community Development Block Grant program, according to a May 10 announcement from the county. The program, funded by the federal government, seeks to provide economic opportunities and suitable living environments for county residents.

The floats on Holbrook’s Wharf provide tie-up space for both fishermen and recreational boaters. The Holbrook Community Foundation owns the historic Holbrook property. In addition to waterfront facilities, the property includes a restaurant, store and apartment building.

Established in 2006, the foundation seeks to protect Harpswell’s coastal heritage through the preservation of Holbrook’s working waterfront, as well as to support commercial fishing and provide opportunities for education about the marine environment.
