Grant program aims to stabilize new businesses after pandemic

A new program is offering one-time grants of up to $50,000 to stabilize new businesses harmed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Midcoast Council of Governments is administering the New Business Recovery Grants and Technical Assistance Program for the Midcoast, which includes Brunswick and Harpswell in Cumberland County.

Eligible entities are businesses or nonprofits that have a location in the region, started or were acquired on or after Jan. 1, 2020, have fewer than 250 employees, and are in good standing with the state.

In addition to grants, the program offers advisory services to facilitate recovery and growth. Advisory services include entrepreneurial training, giving business owners the skills to build sustainable business models.

The initial application period opened April 21 and closes June 1, with additional application periods to follow through 2024.
