Fundraiser supports local students

On behalf of the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund, I would like to warmly thank the staff and students of Brunswick High School who participated in the annual Brunswick City Limits fundraiser. On April 7 and 8, the musical and comedy revue at Crooker Theater collected approximately $4,100 in support of scholarships for local students.

The Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund is a nonprofit whose primary mission is to award scholarships to eligible high school graduates who pursue postsecondary education, including four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, career and technical education, and graduate schools.

Scholarship recipients must be residents of Harpswell, Brunswick, Topsham, Bowdoin or Bowdoinham. Since its founding in the 1950s, the fund has awarded more than 5,200 graduates more than $10 million to pursue secondary education.

The staff and students at Brunswick High School generously donated their time and talents to put on a show, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Student Aid Fund. Because of their efforts and dedication, the scholarship fund is both stronger and more visible within the community.

What may not be fully appreciated are the trends, identified more than 10 years ago, that have led the town to face the reality that a new station is the most practical, economic and flexible solution to a problem that threatens to leave the town with an inadequate response to a structure fire, major accident or wildfire. These risks are significant and cannot be wished or studied away.

Walk on the left

We live in South Harpswell, close to the end of Route 123. This stretch of road is popular with walkers, especially in the summer, but it is also busy year-round.
