The Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department held a recognition cookout at the Orr’s Island Fire Station on Sept. 18, to honor first responders and departing members of the OBIFD Board of Directors.

More than 30 people gathered to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes, along with beverages and desserts provided by Flight Deck Brewing and Wild Oats Bakery & Cafe, both of Brunswick.

“It was a fun opportunity to say thank you to our outstanding first responders and the board members who do so much to support the department’s lifesaving efforts,” said Christine Donovan-Hall, president of the board. Donovan-Hall was among those honored with commemorative plaques. She will step down from the board at the end of the year after serving two three-year terms.

First responders honored for more than five years of service, some for many more, included Catherine Piffath, Cynthia Bessmer, Ed Levine, Paul Kittle, Phillip Taylor, Zachary Stoler, Dan Reynolds, Sean Hall and Benjamin Wallace Jr.

Board members Allan LeGrow and Doug Warren were honored, along with Donovan-Hall, for serving two three-year stints and “terming off” the board. New OBIFD directors and executive officers will be installed in January.
