The Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department’s Summer of Fun will continue on Aug. 10 with “Dancing Under the Stars,” a Caribbean-themed evening filled with reggae music and delicious tropical dining.

Imagine the grounds of the Orr’s Island Fire Station and Schoolhouse transformed into a tropical island. Feast on Caribbean pork with plantains and squash in peanut sauce, along with jerk chicken, rice and beans, salad and dessert. A vegetarian option will also be available.

Guests are welcome to BYOB or enjoy water and lemonade to quench their thirst after dancing to the music of Stream Reggae, Maine’s premier reggae band.

The event will run from 6-10 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at obifd.org or on the OBIFD Facebook page. Advance tickets are recommended, though some may be available at the door. Colorful Caribbean attire is encouraged!

So far, the Summer of Fun has featured a successful barn sale in June and a 5K fun run and pancake breakfast in July. A classic car event is planned for September. These events represent important fundraising opportunities for OBIFD to help replace the annual yard sale and auction, which was discontinued because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re hoping folks will come out for a fun, memorable evening and help support OBIFD and its volunteer first responders and all they do to keep our community safe,” said Jan Skillings-Goff, a member of the OBIFD Board of Directors and event organizer.

The Orr’s Island Fire Station is at 1600 Harpswell Islands Road, Orr’s Island. For more information or to volunteer at the event, email Skillings-Goff at jsglau@hotmail.com.
