Time to shake up Augusta

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s time for Harpswell voters to shake up Augusta! We must change course significantly to address these issues:

Higher taxes: Maine is one of the highest-taxed states.

Unaffordable housing: The cost of buying or renting has skyrocketed.

Healthcare: Costs and appointment wait times have soared. Hospitals have closed.

Schools: Students’ basic skills (reading, writing, math) have plummeted.

Crime: Criminals and drug use negatively impact public safety.

Waste, fraud and abuse: Taxpayers are being robbed of the funding they have provided.

Harpswell needs leadership in Augusta determined to make tough decisions and implement the policies, programs, spending controls and tax cuts required to make Maine affordable again.

Ben Porter is a candidate for State Senate. He’s an Orr’s Islander who returned to his Maine roots after serving 25 years as an Army Ranger, earning a Master of Business Administration degree at Johns Hopkins University, and working for 10 years at the U.S. Treasury Department. He has the motivation, experience and leadership skills to ensure the next generation of Mainers inherits a state that is safe, affordable and thriving.

Braeden Webber, a fifth-generation Mainer, is an earnest, youthful candidate for state representative who is ready to represent his generation, as well as previous and future generations, in Augusta. Born and raised in Harpswell, he grew up on our working waterfront. His work ethic, values and viewpoint were forged by the hardworking lobstermen and fishermen in his family and community.

These two candidates will provide the impetus for the changes that are desperately needed in Augusta. Electing them will help ensure that Maine continues to be “the way life should be.”
