The Harpswell Lobster Boat Races Committee is proud to announce that the 2025 races will take place Sunday, July 27, with a rain date of Aug. 3.

Sadie Skinner, of Orr's Island, has successfully completed four years of challenging academic, physical and professional military training at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. On May 23, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in ocean engineering with a minor in French, and she was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy.

We all need a hand at times, no matter who we are or how well we've managed our lives. A ride into town. A meal in a pinch. A break from caregiving. TLC for a cranky laptop or damaged lamp. Someone to talk with when life feels like it's just too much.

More than 60 fourth and fifth graders from across Maine School Administrative District 75 participated in the Noetic Learning Math Contest in April. The goal of the competition is to encourage students' interest in math, develop their problem-solving skills, and inspire them to excel in STEM fields — science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Following the postponement of the annual Town Meeting in March, the Harpswell Select Board decided to defer a vote on the town's new comprehensive plan until Nov. 4. The vote will be conducted by secret ballot instead of a show of cards at a meeting.

Conserving water by harnessing your landscape is the topic of "The Power of Plants," the third program in the WaterWise series offered by the Harpswell Conservation Commission.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, Dr. Paul MacPherson, district superintendent of the Maine District Church of the Nazarene, was welcomed by the Cundy's Harbor Community Church of the Nazarene for their morning worship celebration.

The Harpswell Santa Fund is announcing a transition in leadership. Evan Weston has decided to relinquish his role as president of the fund. He will continue to serve on the board. Mark Roesler assumed the role of president effective April 7.

Brunswick Scouting Troop 648 has been active. February offered great conditions for winter camping. A dozen Scouts braved subfreezing temperatures while camping on the banks of Panther Pond in Raymond.

For more than 120 years, the Curtis Memorial Library building on Pleasant Street in Brunswick has welcomed readers, writers, poets and those seeking a quiet refuge to research local history, warm up by the fireplace, or simply sit and take in the art and architecture of the space.
