The cost to build a boat ramp at Mitchell Field could rise to nearly $2 million, more than twice as much as a previous estimate. Moreover, the town risks losing almost $360,000 in grants for the long-planned project as the state grows impatient with a lack of progress toward construction.

Recent attention to speeding in the Gurnet area has also brought scrutiny to the nearby intersection of Route 24 and Cundy's Harbor Road. Now, the Maine Department of Transportation says it will replace that intersection's yield signs with stop signs by December.

Town, county and state officials heard from frustrated Harpswell residents about speeding and unsafe driving on Route 24 near the Gurnet Strait bridge in a meeting at the Town Office on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The owner of the Portland Lobster Co. restaurant is buying the wharf and lobster pound on Garrison Cove, next to Cook's Lobster & Ale House and facing the Cribstone Bridge.
