Recent attention to speeding in the Gurnet area has also brought scrutiny to the nearby intersection of Route 24 and Cundy’s Harbor Road. Now, the Maine Department of Transportation says it will replace that intersection’s yield signs with stop signs by December.
Randy Illian, regional traffic coordinator for the Department of Transportation, visited the intersection shortly after an Oct. 3 meeting about speeding in the Gurnet area. He says drivers on Cundy’s Harbor Road can’t see approaching traffic well enough for yield signs to be safe.
The agency will replace two of the intersection’s three yield signs, meaning drivers on Cundy’s Harbor Road will stop before turning north or south on Route 24. The third yield sign, for northbound drivers entering Cundy’s Harbor Road, will remain.
The Department of Transportation says no other changes are planned for the intersection at this time.
