Five-member board almost a no-brainer

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Commenting on Liz Taylor’s September letter (“Larger boards enhance representation“) about perhaps expanding Harpswell’s Select Board from three members to five, most of my professional life in municipal government was spent managing two medium-size towns in Maine for nearly 15 years each. One had a three-member board, one a five-member board. Long story short, five was preferred — almost a no-brainer.

With our town’s three main peninsulas spread out into Casco Bay, there could be one position representing each peninsula and two random seats.

Something to ponder.
