Maine School Administrative District 75 is gearing up for its second annual Community STEM Night on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 4-7 p.m. at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
The district is once again bringing together local businesses and organizations to showcase examples of how they use STEM.
Following a successful 2025 STEM Night with more than 400 participants, the district is hoping for an even larger turnout this year. Activities will include robot building, digital art, and science experiments — all hosted by teachers from the district with some help from students.
Additionally, a career fair will help students and families learn more about STEM-related career pathways. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The event, from 4-7 p.m., will coincide with the girls varsity and junior varsity basketball games at 5:30 and 7, respectively. The Woodside One Wheelers, a juggling and unicycling group based at Woodside Elementary School in Topsham, will perform at halftime of the varsity game.
Local businesses and organizations, including Maine Maritime Academy, Ocean Renewable Power Co., and Bath Iron Works, will be at the event.
The event is being organized by Mt. Ararat High School Principal Chris Hoffman, teacher Corrie Calderwood, and Community Learning Coordinator Doug Ware, who are participating in Workforce Ready 2030. The program, sponsored by the Harold Alfond Foundation, aims to expand accessibility to computer science education in rural classrooms across Maine. It has helped fund STEM Night.
The event is free. Free food and drink will be on hand, and vouchers to the concession stand will be given to the first 250 participants to arrive. More information is available on the event website.
Mt. Ararat High School is at 73 Eagles Way in Topsham. MSAD 75 includes the towns of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham.
