Two people were taken to area hospitals after a head-on collision Tuesday morning on Harpswell Islands Road just south of Trufant-Summerton Athletic Field.

The two-vehicle crash happened at 9:23 a.m. near 692 Harpswell Islands Road, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies said a 2012 Ford Fusion crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction.

The Silverado’s driver, 70-year-old David Waterman, of Harpswell, was taken to Mid Coast Hospital, in Brunswick, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fusion’s driver, 42-year-old Serena Weston, of Brunswick, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Maine Medical Center, in Portland, for non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Fusion, 49-year-old Kevin Hayes, of Harpswell, was not hospitalized.

Deputies responded to the crash, along with the Cundy’s Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department. The road was shut down temporarily while first responders worked the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division.
