William David Jack II, M.D., 84, died suddenly on May 24. He was the son of Ralph Willis Jack, M.D., and Ruth Garland Jack, and was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Miami Beach, Florida.
David attended Miami Country Day, then The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, class of 1959. While there, he played soccer and ran track. He was a 1963 graduate of Yale University, where he was a member of the Yale Glee Club. As he was ranked first in his biology major after a comprehensive exam, he was admitted to Johns Hopkins University Medical School, where he met his wife. There, he was a member of the Pithotomy Club.
After graduating in 1967, he trained in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Hospital for three years of internship and residency (1967-1969 and 1971-1972). His training was interrupted for service to his country in the United States Navy from 1969-1971. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander.
David then began his cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University Hospital from 1972-1974. He moved with his wife and daughter to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1974, where he first established a solo private practice in cardiology and subsequently was a co-founder of Cardiology Associates.
David was board-certified in both internal medicine and cardiology. He was elected as a fellow in both the American Academy of Internal Medicine and the American Academy of Cardiology. He was a past chief of medicine at Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi. In 2002, he was the honoree at the Corpus Christi Chapter of the American Heart Association Ball for his contributions to cardiology.
David served his community as president and board member of the Corpus Christi Chapter of the American Heart Association and as a board member of the Corpus Christi Art Museum. He will be remembered by his friends and family as a loving, kind and brilliant man, as well as a caring physician who never stopped learning. He was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather. He was a world traveler, visiting all seven continents with many wonderful adventures, and he was an avid reader and historian.
David was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Joan Jack Sprague. He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Janis Graham Jack; his daughter, Dr. Katherine Graham Jack; his two grandsons, Jaden and Skylar Lambert; and by his nieces and grandnephews.
David was a huge presence in our lives and will be greatly missed. A memorial is planned for later in the summer at his home in Harpswell, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Children’s Heart Foundation or a charity of your choice.
