Did you know that watermelon is grown in Maine? While it’s not the first crop that comes to mind when thinking of our state, local watermelon is juicy and incredibly sweet. It’s one of my favorite seasonal ingredients.
This light and refreshing drink pairs fresh watermelon with fragrant jasmine green tea, bright lemon and a touch of local honey for a naturally hydrating beverage that’s just right for a hot summer day. It comes together in minutes, making it perfect for those times when you need a few electrolytes to power through your day.

Watermelon refresher
Ingredients:
- 2 jasmine green tea bags
- 2 cups hot water
- 4 cups watermelon
- 2 lemons, peels and seeds removed
- 1/4 cup local honey
Directions:
Steep the jasmine green tea in 2 cups of hot water for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool.
Add the watermelon, peeled lemons and honey to a blender. Blend until completely smooth, with no visible fibers or pulp remaining. Taste and adjust the honey if needed.
Fill glasses with ice. Pour the watermelon mixture until each glass is three-quarters full, then top with the cooled jasmine green tea. Stir gently to combine. Garnish with a lemon slice and a watermelon wedge. Serve immediately and enjoy!
