The Maine School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed Hutson Hayward, of Bowdoinham, to serve as its leader for the 2026-27 academic year.
The school board chose Hayward, who has two children in the district and works in TV and film production, at its meeting on Thursday, April 9. He will begin serving as chair on July 1, just three years after starting his previous one-year term in the leadership role. He is currently the board’s vice chair.
The chair position usually rotates annually among the district’s four communities — Harpswell, Topsham, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham — making it possible for a given member to serve as chair every four years.
But the current rotation was accelerated when former Vice Chair Brandy Robertson, of Bowdoin, announced in August 2024 that she was stepping down and moving to Florida. Robertson had been next in line to serve as chair.
Ryan Larsen, of Harpswell, was chosen to replace Robertson as vice chair and then elected chair in April 2025. His term as leader will end July 1, when Hayward takes over.
The board also elected a vice chair for the 2026-27 school year. Amy Spelke, of Topsham, will serve in the role. Spelke previously served as vice chair for the 2023-24 school year, and as chair for the 2024-25 school year. The vice chair usually goes on to serve as chair the following year.
