State Reps. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, and Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick, will host a food drive in support of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program at the Harpswell Town Office from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23.
In addition to accepting food donations, the legislators will be available to share updates on their work and their goals for the upcoming legislative session. They also will answer questions from constituents.
“Food insecurity impacts countless families in our state,” said Golek, a second-term legislator who represents Harpswell and part of Brunswick. “During the years of my life that I was a single mother, raising two small children alone, I remember how crucial support from local food banks like Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program was in providing my family with fresh food.
“I am proud to partner with Reps. Ankeles and Arford on this food drive to support our neighbors and to give back to the food bank that helped me and my family when we needed it most.”
The Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program is a nonprofit organization based in Brunswick that assists all Mainers, regardless of income or residency, through its low-barrier food pantries. Current donation requests from the organization include peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, pasta and pasta sauce, cereal and granola bars.
The lawmakers also collected donations at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick on Friday, Nov. 21.
