The Maine School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed Vice Chair Ryan Larsen, of Harpswell, to serve as its leader for the 2025-26 academic year.
At its April 10 meeting, the board also selected former Chair Hutson Hayward, of Bowdoinham, as vice chair. The district covers Harpswell, Topsham, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham.
Voters reelected Larsen, of Harpswell Neck, to his second term on the school board in March. He ran unopposed.
Larsen works in merchandising and product development for L.L. Bean. He has three daughters, two enrolled in local schools and one recent graduate. Larsen has said his goal is to ensure the quality of education for his daughters and the rest of the student population.
MSAD 75 follows a rotation system in which a representative from each town leads the school board every four years. Board members from the designated town caucus to select a nominee, who must then be approved by the full board.
In 2024, a group of school board members sought to end the rotation policy, but they backed down after receiving pushback from the community.
The current vice chair is nearly always selected as next year’s chair. Former Vice Chair Brandy Robertson, of Bowdoin, had been next in line to lead the board, but Robertson moved to Florida in August, and Larsen was chosen to replace her.
