Two incumbents are seeking reelection unopposed at the annual Town Meeting in March: Maine School Administrative District 75 board member Ryan Larsen and Harpswell Town Clerk Catherine “Cathy” Doughty.
Larsen, of Harpswell Neck, works in merchandising and product development for L.L. Bean. He has three daughters, two enrolled in local schools and one recent graduate.
Larsen has said he wants to continue his work on the school board to ensure the quality of education for his daughters and the rest of the student population.
He said quality education “not only serves as the foundation for our communities but is the most important investment we can make for the future.”
Both Larsen and Doughty are running for their second terms, although Doughty previously served 18 years as deputy town clerk. Each position has a three-year term.
Doughty, of Orr’s Island, grew up in Phippsburg and graduated from Morse High School in 1982. She worked at L.L. Bean before landing a job closer to home at the Harpswell Town Office.
She served as deputy town clerk from 2003 until her appointment as interim town clerk in August 2021, after the previous town clerk’s retirement.
The town clerk supervises elections and handles vital records such as births, deaths and marriages. The clerk also issues clamming, fishing and hunting licenses; dog licenses; mooring registrations; and dinghy stickers for the town dock, destroyed in early 2024 but likely to be rebuilt.
Doughty has said she is running for reelection “because I absolutely love my job and serving the community of Harpswell.”
