Select Board incumbent wins reelection

Harpswell Select Board member David Chipman withstood a challenge from write-in candidate Jerry Leeman III to win reelection, 829 to 493, on Saturday, March 9.

Chipman, of Harpswell Neck, secured a three-year term. He has a decade of experience on the board, from 1999-2002 and 2017 to the present. Leeman, of Orr’s Island, is CEO of the New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association and a former commercial fisherman.

Frank Wright IV won reelection to the Maine School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors for a three-year term with 1,068 votes. He was unopposed.

Purple shark warning flags to fly all season

After a fisherman spotted a shark swimming near Bailey Island's Cedar Beach in late June, Harpswell town officials raised a purple caution flag alerting beachgoers to the potential risk. But rather than continue to raise and lower warning flags at this and other swimming spots as shark sightings occur, they've decided to keep them up throughout the summer tourist season.
