The Harpswell Comprehensive Plan Task Force will host a public hearing and information session on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Harpswell Community School to review the revised draft plan. The event will start at 10 a.m. Arrangements are being made to livestream the proceedings on the town’s YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person.
The draft plan was originally scheduled to be voted on at the March 2024 Town Meeting. However, a number of public concerns arose that led to a decision to systematically review the document. Over the past eight months, the task force has done just that. The current draft places greater emphasis on the working waterfront and the importance of preserving the town’s natural resources and open space. Controversial issues such as affordable or attainable housing and future land use also have been addressed.
The draft plan has been uploaded to the town’s website for review. Paper copies are available for review at the Town Office and at both the Orr’s and Cundy’s Harbor libraries. Additionally, task force members will be available to answer questions and provide relevant information at the Town Office on Feb. 11, 13 and 14 from 1-3 p.m. An additional drop-in session will be held on Feb. 13 from 4-6 p.m. for people who work during the day.
