John Moore

John F. Moore passed away on Friday, June 21, at Maine Medical Center.

John was born in Derbyshire, England, on Nov. 23, 1948, to Nancy Ball Moore and Frederick Moore. In February 1953, John and his parents set sail on the Queen Elizabeth and immigrated to the United States.

The family settled in Middleton, Massachusetts, where John and his brother, David, spent their youth. John graduated from Masconomet Regional High School in 1967. He went on to graduate from Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. John met his wife, Mary, while attending college, and they married in 1971.

John and Mary enjoyed traveling, working on their home and garden, going on slow boat rides, and raising a family together. John was an amazing father who loved to share his passion for the ocean, boats, gardening and sports with his children.

After moving around the country for John’s work, they settled permanently in Harpswell, where they enjoyed many boating adventures, made wonderful friends, and spent time with their adult children and the family pets.

An avid sailor and boat lover, John started a small business, Wild Duck Boat Works.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Bridget Moore, and her partner, Jeff Palhota; his son, John E. Moore, and his wife, Melody Coombs Moore; his granddaughters, Leona and Liberty Moore; his extended family; and his friends.

Funeral services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are in the care of Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home’s website, stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
