Ed Levine

Edward Alan “Ed” Levine, 67, of Orr’s Island, Maine, formerly of New Rochelle, New York, and Sharon, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by family on Feb. 14, 2026. Ed leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara Nodiff, and his Australian cattle dog, Bogie.

Ed had a degree in journalism and worked for many years as a newspaper reporter. He contributed to local media, including the Harpswell Anchor, covering community events and town issues. He was a volunteer firefighter and public information officer for the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department and was instrumental in running its annual charity auction for several years.

Ed loved gardening, being a ham radio operator and collector, and traveling in the United States and abroad. He visited a dozen countries in Europe and proposed to Barbara in Austria. His U.S. adventures included a cruise to Alaska and a trip to Las Vegas, where he saw Dead & Company in the Sphere. It should be noted that his most memorable Las Vegas adventure was marrying Barb in a helicopter while flying over the Vegas Strip.

Ed was a devoted friend and stayed in close contact with a large group of his college buddies for more than 45 years. A dozen of them met in a weekly Zoom session that began during the pandemic and that he continued to participate in even from his hospital bed. He was extraordinarily generous and regularly opened his home (and extensive vodka collection), hosting multiday holiday gatherings with his circle of friends. Ed also was in an investment club, and he and his friends celebrated by taking a trip to Scotland to tour numerous distillers.

Besides his wife, Barbara, Ed is survived by his mother, Lillian Levine; brother, Gary Levine; sister, Amy Schlegel (Michael); nieces, Sara Rockett (Zack), Samantha Sikula (Joe), Haley Drinkwater (David), and Adrianna Brethauer (Abel); nephew, Cameron Schlegel; and great-nephews, Ally and Ezra Rockett. Ed also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Shari and Rick Weinstein, and their children, Alana, Brett, Connor, and Naomi. He was predeceased by his father, Howard Levine.

A celebration of Ed’s life is being planned for Sunday, June 7, from 1-4 p.m. at the Orr’s Island Schoolhouse, 1594 Harpswell Islands Road, Orr’s Island. Hawaiian shirts will be provided. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

May his memory be a blessing.
