Brendan Nordstrom, a senior at Boston University and aspiring journalist, has joined the Harpswell Anchor as a seasonal news intern.
Nordstrom, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, expects to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism in May 2025. He brings experience from several prior internships, including stints as a State House correspondent with the Taunton (Massachusetts) Daily Gazette; a reporting intern with The Sunday Telegraph in Sydney, Australia; and a beat reporter in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He is a former managing editor and sports editor at The Daily Free Press, the independent student newspaper at Boston University.
The Anchor’s internship seeks to provide mentorship and professional experience to a postsecondary journalism student, as well as to boost the news staff during Harpswell’s busiest time of year.
The paid internship is in its third year. This year, through the generosity of donors Kathleen O’Donnell and Bill Bergquist, the Anchor was able to offer housing as part of the program.
“The ability to offer housing allows us to recruit interns from throughout New England and even the country,” said J.W. Oliver, editor of the Harpswell Anchor. “We want to make the Anchor a destination for top journalism students, both to serve our readers and to serve our profession by contributing to the education of future journalists.”
