Roughly half of Central Maine Power’s customers in Harpswell remained without power on Tuesday afternoon, March 26, two days after an ice storm knocked out power to the entire town.

According to CMP’s online outage list, about 2,400 of the town’s 4,760 customers still were experiencing outages as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The utility said it expected all power to be restored by Tuesday evening.

According to CMP, about 7,600 customers statewide were still waiting for power to be restored following the storm, which initially knocked out power to roughly 200,000 households and businesses. Those remaining included 2,400 customers in Harpswell, 1,800 in Brunswick and 300 in Freeport, among others.

“We have restored power to more than 195,000 customers and remain focused on completing restoration for the 8,000 customers who remain without power as a result of the devasting storm,” the utility said in a statement. “While we expect to have customers restored by this evening, please know our crews will continue working 24/7 until every customer has their power back.”

Harpswell and Maine have experienced multiple major storm-related power outages over the past few months, including on Dec. 18, Jan. 10, Jan. 13, March 10 and March 24.
