Removal of campaign signs

It’s always exciting to see the flourish of campaign signs come out prior to an election. They are indicative of activism, involvement, and interest in our democracy and our community.

I would like to commend candidates Bubba Davis, Cheryl Golek, Jonathan Sahrbeck and Jackie Sartoris for having their signs taken down within a few days after the election so that we were able to return to enjoying the natural beauty of Harpswell without the visual distraction of no-longer-relevant campaign materials.

It’s a shame that two other candidates did not abide by their own, personally established deadlines for sign removal, as those listed did. It’s not only disrespectful but it shifts the responsibility to the Maine Department of Transportation and the town, with us, the taxpayers, bearing the unnecessary expense of picking up after them.
