Town office to end mask requirement

The town office will end its mask requirement Monday, March 7.

The select board approved the change 3-0 on Thursday, March 3, after Selectman David Chipman said that the state would drop its recommendation for universal masking in schools effective Wednesday, March 9.

“I would just as soon make it optional here, although I’ll tell you I will continue to wear my mask in close proximity to other people, at least for a while,” Chipman said.

“Many of our committees are meeting by Zoom. We’re an older community. People are concerned about their health. … We may see more masks than not as a result,” Selectman Jane Covey said.

Masks will still be available at the front door.

The select board instituted the requirement Dec. 6, 2021, replacing a recommendation to mask at times of substantial or high transmission of COVID-19 in Cumberland County.
