Town orders $554,592 fire truck

A new fire truck for use by the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department will cost the town $554,592 and replace a 30-year-old vehicle.

The Pierce Saber pumper will take 17 months to build, according to Town Administrator Kristi Eiane. The seller is Allegiance Fire and Rescue, of Massachusetts.

The Emergency Vehicle Committee recommended the purchase and the Board of Selectmen approved it Jan. 13, pending a review by the town’s lawyer.

Of the price, $526,162 will come from the town’s emergency vehicle reserve. The 2022 budget proposes to add $100,000 to the reserve, which would cover the balance of $28,430. If the $100,000 does not pass at town meeting, the town will take the balance from its contingency fund.
