Legislature honors former town clerk

The Maine Legislature recently recognized Rosalind “Roz” Knight, Harpswell town clerk from 1997-2021, with a legislative sentiment in her honor.

State Rep. Jay McCreight, of Harpswell, presented the sentiment to Knight and the town during a meeting of the Harpswell Board of Selectmen on Nov. 4.

Knight “has helped Harpswell’s residents with a wide range of vital public services, including registering voters, absentee and in-person voting, issuing various licenses and responding to vital records requests,” the sentiment states.

Knight retired in July after 30 years with the town, the last 24 as town clerk. She has since returned to the town office on a part-time basis to train new employees and assist with other occasional needs.

The presentation was a surprise to Knight.

“This is very humbling and I think just the opposite,” Knight said. “It’s been my honor to work here. Thank you very much.”

McCreight introduced the sentiment with state Sen. Mattie Daughtry, of Brunswick, as co-sponsor.
