The cost to publish an obituary with up to 400 words and a photo is $300. Obituaries appear in one print edition and indefinitely at harpswellanchor.org. Obituary photos are square and one column wide. The Anchor will prorate the cost for additional words and/or photos, as well as larger photos. The Anchor edits obituaries for grammar, punctuation and spelling, following Associated Press style. A proof will be provided for approval. When an obituary does not come from a funeral home, verification of death by a funeral home may be required to prevent fraud.
Guidelines and procedures:
Submit obituaries by email to janice@harpswellanchor.org, preferably as Word documents. Attach photos as full-size JPG files. Do not embed photos in documents or reduce the file size before submission.
The cost to prorate an obituary longer than 300 words is 75 cents per word. Obituaries received on or before the 15th of the month will be published in the next edition. Obituaries are published online as soon as they are approved. Extra copies of the print edition will be provided to the family or funeral home if desired.
