A practical, economic, flexible solution

I am writing regarding the proposed additional fire station. What may not be fully appreciated are the trends, identified more than 10 years ago, that have led the town to face the reality that a new station is the most practical, economic and flexible solution to a problem that threatens to leave the town with an inadequate response to a structure fire, major accident or wildfire. These risks are significant and cannot be wished or studied away.

Pay now or pay more later

I am currently a driver for the Cundy's Harbor Volunteer Fire Department, and I was on the board of the Orr's and Bailey Islands Fire Department for several years. I support the building of an additional fire station.

Central station deserves our support

What is more important to all of us than the safety and care of our families and homes? Responses to health, fire and other emergencies should be available to all Harpswell residents as rapidly and as equitably as possible.

Residents given poor choice

The Select Board has clearly stated that Harpswell residents should decide the fate of the administration building at Mitchell Field and that the decision should not be made by the board.

Voting no on new station

I have worked on the planning and execution of large municipal projects like the proposed $6 million central emergency services station, and I know what the proper process is. It has not been followed.

Thank you to horse helpers

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to Animal Control Officer Jim Bebarski and all the law enforcement officers, friends and neighbors, some known to us and some not known, who helped round up our horses when they decided to make a break for it very early in the morning on March 5.

Seating, parking discourage participation

I urge the appropriate town decision-makers to hold all future annual Town Meetings at Mt. Ararat Middle School's Orion Performing Arts Center, after the 2025 Town Meeting exceeded the 420-person limit for the fire code at Harpswell Community School.
